The current generation of BMW's flagship luxury sedan first appeared in 1995, and is actually the third incarnation of a model first introduced to America in 1986. While that early 7-Series initially offered only an in-line 6-cylinder engine, today you can choose between a V8 and a V12. The 7-Series also features increased airbag protection for both front and rear-seat occupants. Designed to offer increased head protection in a side impact, BMW's new Head Protection System features an inflatable tube that deploys diagonally from the base of the A-pillar (windshield pillar) to the roof just above the rear door, providing improved head protection for front-seat occupants.
