Even though Ford's F-Series pickup trucks have been America's best-selling new motor vehicles for the last 18 years, the introduction of the restyled '97 F-150 in January 1996 increased that lead substantially. In 1999 Ford introduced an all-new F-Series Super Duty. Unlike previous heavy-duty F-Series models, the new Super Duty is built on a separate platform from the light-duty F-150 and F-250, both of which have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 8,500 pounds. With three engines to choose from, including a V10 power plant, the F-Series Super Duty can be equipped to provide a GVWR of more than 11,000 pounds.
