Of all the success stories Chrysler has experienced in recent years, one of the biggest has been the introduction of the Ram pickup for 1994. While the previous Dodge pickup barely attained one-tenth the annual sales of its rivals, the uniquely styled Ram has been embraced by truck buyers to such an extent that it rose to fourth in overall new-vehicle sales for the first half of 1996. Dodge hopes that sales will continue to increase with the addition of the Quad Cab body style, which provides two rear-access doors on Club Cab models. The Ram 1500 offers short- and regular-length versions, and at slightly over 6,000 pounds has the lightest gross weight ratings in the Ram line.
