The Century model name has a long history at Buick. It first appeared in the late 1930s to emphasize the car's advertised top speed of 100 mph, an unusual feat for cars of that time. In 1997 the Century received a ground-up redesign to replace a model that first appeared in 1982. Buick describes its products as "premium American motorcars," and the new Century's design reflects the character of its Buick siblings.
